Overview

The Romania Long-Stay Visa for Family Reunification (D/VF) allows non-British citizens residing in the UK to join family members who are legally residing in Romania. This visa applies to reunification with Romanian citizens or third-country nationals who hold a valid Romanian residence permit. Depending on the applicant’s relationship with the sponsor, different supporting documents may apply.

Eligibility

  • The sponsor must be a Romanian citizen or a third-country national legally residing in Romania (temporary, permanent, EU Blue Card, or humanitarian protection)
  • The applicant must be a direct family member of the sponsor and meet the legal conditions for reunification
  • Categories eligible for reunification include:
    • Spouse
    • Unmarried minor children of the sponsor and/or spouse, including adopted children
    • Parents of the sponsor or spouse if they are dependent and lack support in their country of origin
    • Unmarried adult children unable to care for themselves due to medical reasons
    • Legal guardians or relatives of unaccompanied minors benefiting from refugee or subsidiary protection
    • Unmarried partners with a Romanian citizen, if they share custody of a child

Processing Time

  • Applications must be submitted to Romanian consulates or embassies in the country of origin or legal residence
  • Visa decisions are based on approval granted by the Inspectorate General for Immigration, which is valid for 60 days
  • Applicants should ensure timely submission after receiving approval

Documents Required

Inspectorate General for Immigration Approval

  • Official communication issued by the Inspectorate General for Immigration – Ministry of Internal Affairs(valid for 60 days)
  • Application for family reunification must be submitted in Romania by the sponsor with the following:
    • Marriage certificate or document proving family ties
    • Authenticated declaration stating cohabitation with the family member
    • Copy of the sponsor’s valid Romanian residence permit
    • Proof of appropriate accommodation for a similar family in Romania
    • Proof of financial means
    • Proof of valid health insurance for the applicant
    • Written consent from the other parent/legal guardian when reunification involves a minor
    • Copy of the applicant’s travel document
    • Note: Refugee or subsidiary protection holders are exempt from accommodation, income, and insurance proof requirements

For Romanian Citizen Sponsors

  • Marriage certificate (issued or transcribed under Romanian law), or
  • Documents proving kinship or partnership (e.g. shared custody of a child)
  • For family members holding residence in another EU member state:
    • Proof of registered right of residence as a family member of the Romanian citizen

Valid Passport

  • Valid for at least three months beyond the visa’s intended expiry
  • Issued within the last 10 years
  • Must contain at least two blank pages

Photographs

  • Two recent colour photographs (3 x 4 cm)
  • Dated within 6 months
  • Head should occupy 70%–80% of the photo area

Biometric Data

  • Ten fingerprints will be collected unless already recorded in the last 59 months

UK Residency

  • UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code

Criminal Record Certificate

  • Criminal record certificate or equivalent document issued by the applicant’s country of residence or origin

Travel Medical Insurance

  • Must cover the entire duration of stay in Romania
  • Minimum coverage of EUR 30,000

Must include emergency medical services and repatriation
