Employment Visa (Long-Stay D/AM) – Romania

Overview

The Romania Long-Stay Visa for Employment (D/AM) is issued to non-British citizens residing in the UK who intend to work legally in Romania. This visa is granted on the basis of a valid work authorisation issued under Romanian law or equivalent legal documentation depending on the applicant’s category (e.g. bilateral agreements, government mandates, or special professional activities).

Eligibility

  • Must be a third-country national residing in the UK with a valid job offer or official employment engagement in Romania
  • Must hold a work authorisation or fall under an eligible exempt category (see below)
  • UK residency must be valid at the time of application
  • For seasonal workers: accommodation documentation must be provided if not arranged by the employer

Processing Time

  • The visa application must be submitted within 180 days from the issuance of the work authorisation
  • Timelines may vary depending on documentation, work category, and background checks
  • Early submission is recommended for timely visa issuance

Documents Required

Work Authorisation

  • A copy of the work authorisation issued under Romanian law
  • Not required if the applicant falls into one of the following exempt categories:
    • Individuals with free access to the Romanian labour market under international treaties
    • Those involved in scientific, cultural, educational, or ministerial activities based on bilateral agreements or ministry orders
    • Appointed heads of subsidiaries, branch offices, or representative offices of Romanian or foreign companies, provided they are not shareholders, associates, or administrators in any Romanian company and no other third-country national holds a similar right of stay in that entity
    • Citizens of the Republic of Moldova, Serbia, or Ukraine working in Romania with a full-time contract for a maximum of 9 months within a calendar year — instead of a work authorisation, a valid employment contract must be submitted

Valid Passport

  • Must be valid for at least three months beyond the visa’s expiry
  • Issued within the last 10 years
  • Must contain at least two blank pages

Photographs

  • Two recent colour photographs (3 x 4 cm)
  • Dated within 6 months
  • Head should occupy 70%–80% of the photo area

Biometric Data

  • Ten fingerprints will be collected unless previously recorded within the last 59 months

UK Residency

  • UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code

Proof of Finance

  • Evidence of financial means equal to at least the minimum guaranteed gross salary in Romania, covering the full period of stay

Criminal Record Certificate

  • Police clearance or equivalent issued by the authorities in the applicant’s country of residence or abode
  • Must confirm the absence of any criminal convictions

Travel Medical Insurance

  • Must cover the entire period of stay in Romania
  • Minimum coverage of EUR 30,000
  • Must include emergency medical care and repatriation

Proof of Accommodation (Applicable for Seasonal Workers Only)

  • Required only if the employer’s work authorisation does not confirm that accommodation is provided
  • Accepted proof includes:
    • A firm reservation with an accommodation provider
    • A property ownership or lease contract in the applicant’s name
    • An authenticated declaration from the property holder guaranteeing accommodation for the applicant
