Secondment Visa (Long-Stay D/DT)  – Romania

Overview

The Romania Long-Stay Visa for Secondment (D/DT) is intended for non-British citizens residing in the UK who are temporarily seconded to Romania for professional activities. This visa applies to individuals holding a valid secondment authorisation issued by Romanian authorities, as well as those exempt under specific bilateral, educational, or administrative agreements. The visa permits the applicant to work temporarily in Romania while remaining employed by a foreign entity.

Eligibility

  • Must be a third-country national with valid UK residency
  • Must hold a valid secondment authorisation or fall into an exempt category (see below)
  • Application must be submitted within 60 days of the secondment authorisation issuance (if applicable)
  • General visa requirements must be fulfilled, including health, accommodation, and criminal background clearance

Processing Time

  • For applicants with a secondment authorisation: processing is initiated after document verification
  • For exempt categories: a formal endorsement from the Inspectorate General for Immigration is required (issued within 30 days)
  • All applicants are advised to apply well in advance of their intended travel date

Documents Required

  • For Applicants with Secondment Authorisation

Work Authorisation

  • A copy of the official secondment authorisation issued under Romanian legislation
  • Must be issued no more than 60 days before lodging the visa application

Proof of Finance

  • Means of support equal to at least the minimum guaranteed gross salary for the full duration of the visa

Criminal Record Certificate

  • Issued by the authorities of the applicant’s country of residence or origin
  • Must confirm no history of criminal offences

Travel Medical Insurance

  • Insurance must cover the entire duration of stay in Romania
  • Minimum coverage of EUR 30,000
  • Must include emergency medical care and repatriation

Valid Passport

  • Valid for at least three months beyond the visa’s expiry
  • Issued within the last 10 years
  • Must contain at least two blank pages

Photographs

  • Two recent colour photographs (3 x 4 cm)
  • Dated within 6 months
  • Head should occupy 70%–80% of the image area

UK Residency

  • UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code

For Applicants Exempt from Secondment Authorisation

This category includes:

  • Employees of companies headquartered in an EU/EEA country or Switzerland, seconded to Romania
  • Individuals performing temporary educational, scientific, or cultural activities under bilateral agreements
  • Staff seconded to work in Romanian public administration or autonomous public bodies

For these applicants, an endorsement from the Inspectorate General for Immigration is required before the visa is granted.

Employment Contract

  • Translated and notarised copy of the individual employment contract
  • Must be registered with authorities in the home member state

Residence Permit

  • Original and copy of residence permit from the country where the employer is established

Secondment Contract

  • Translated and notarised document proving the secondment arrangement with the Romanian beneficiary

Proof of Finance

  • Means of support equal to at least the minimum guaranteed gross salary for the entire stay

Criminal Record Certificate

  • Official certificate from the applicant’s country of residence or origin confirming a clean legal record

Travel Medical Insurance

  • Insurance covering the entire duration of the visa stay
  • Minimum coverage of EUR 30,000

Valid Passport

  • Valid for at least three months beyond the visa’s validity
  • Issued within the last 10 years
  • Must include two blank pages

Photographs

  • Two recent colour photographs (3 x 4 cm)
  • Dated within 6 months

UK Residency

  • UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code
